October Making Strides Event For Volusia-Flagler
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. To raise awareness and money to battle this pervasive disease, the American Cancer Society sponsors events like the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer 5K walk all over the country. Our local event attracted thousands and there were over 1500 registered participants.
D.G. Meyer Inc. was proud to sponsor a Team and be a part of this event. Our special edition Biketoberfest tee-shirts this year help commemorate the event. We were proud to join the 210 Teams from this area participating in the October 28th Walk.
It was a beautiful day for the event, sunny and warm (not quite too warm) and the turn-out was amazing. A sea of pink greeted the eye during opening ceremonies as you looked across at the pavilions set up for the day. Our own Team was resplendent in their DGM pink tee shirts, pink sun visors, and for most of the girls, pink tutus. Some of the team even sported pink hair.
With a dozen registered Team members and another six or more who participated with us, we did a great job of representing D.G. Meyer and helping to raise awareness. Kudos to Team Captain Brianna Toth for organizing and encouraging our group.
As of this post, the event raised in total over $181,000 to go towards research, and toward treatment and assistance for those affected by Breast Cancer. Our Team raised over $600 to help save lives. We are deeply grateful to those who walked and to those who donated. Thank You.
And along the way, we had a good time. What a lovely and useful way to spend a morning. Our Team ranged in age from two weeks (we had two strollers) to nearly eighty years old. We are, at core, a Family company, and we brought them all along. You’re never too young or too old to help your friends, your (extended) family and your community!
